Original Blog Post: August 8, 2008- A Tough Week

For those wondering where the name information has gone, we have changed our baby's name.  His name will be Caedmon Isaac.  We changed to Caedmon because it means 'wise warrior', a blessing he will greatly need since we learned he will be battling the effects of spina bifida for the rest of his life.

If you would like more information about spina bifida you can go to http://www.spinabifidaassociation.org/site/c.liKWL7PLLrF/b.2642297/k.5F7C/Spina_Bifida_Association.htm
Spina bifida is the reason doctors tell pregnant women to make sure they are getting enough folic acid.  However, Caedmon is proof that folic acid is not the cure-all.  I was taking prenatal vitamins six months before we ever conceived and for whatever reason, maybe because we live in a terribly polluted and messed-up world(?), he still got it.

This has been a very difficult week for Adam and I.  This whole year has been one great lesson in letting go of dreams and learning to walk on in spite of the letting go.  We're working through the textbook grieving process: denial, anger, sadness, acceptance.  It's not a one time deal, it happens everyday, sometimes multiple times in the same day.

We ask for your prayers during this time, as we process exactly what this all means for us and our family.  We're certainly in shock right now and need so much more strength then we can muster for ourselves.
